As a mark of respect for the victims of the London bombings a week ago, two minutes’ silence will be observed throughout the European Union today at midday UK time, 1pm Central EuropeanTime (11am GMT).

As touching as it was and as real the events of last week were, this sort of thing is a political stunt which totally devalues the Remembrance Day silence in memory of the millions who died in two world wars.
Interesting view, David.
I can’t imagine how this two-minutes silence devalues the Remembrance Day silence. Nor how it’s a political stunt.
What I saw on TV yesterday was simply loads of people in different cities across Europe being quiet for 2 minutes in memory of the victims of last week’s tragedy.
So what happens next time and the next time. And the one after that. Two minute silences meant something once. Now it’s like wearing a charity bracelet. Sorry.
