Last month, I signed up for Frappr. This is the neat free web service that lets you create a map that connects you with your friends and colleagues wherever they are. Those friends and colleagues can add their photo. If they have a Frappr map, you can link to theirs.
The service is rapidly gaining in popularity – the millionth member signed up last week
I’d actually forgotten all about it until an auto-email from Frappr showed up yesterday to tell me that nine people had added themselves. Even though I’d requested such email notification each time someone did do that, this was the first one.
To you nine, nice to have you in this group!
If you’d like to join this eclectic group, you’re more than welcome.
This is the first time I have heard of Frappr. This seems like a great way to connect to friends, family and co-workers. How exciting! I am not sure if you have ever heard of The Face Book but it sounds almost very similar. The Face Book is a website that connects you to all your friends at college and also to other colleges across the country. All you have to do is give your e-mail address and create a password. Once you do that, you can put up a picture and have a number of different photos albums. You can also send private messages and talk to friends that you have not talked to in years. You create a profile of yourself that includes your interests and maybe some famous quotes that are important to you. It really is neat to look through peoples profiles and see what they are up to these days. It is amazing that people are just now coming out with this type of great idea. The Face Book only give access to college students but, the Flappr seems like a great idea for people like my parents and for students who have graduated.
Does the Flappr only have one group or are there many you can join? I think we will more than likely be seeing more of these types of sites for people to connect with others that they are close and to even make new friends. One of my teachers is actually from Korea and while we were showing him The Face Book, he showed us the Korean version that his wife is on. It is really neat that people can actually connect across the world too.
Neville,
Cool! Neat to see where people are. (And I did add myself.)
Now it would be entertaining to create a Frappr map for FIR Listeners…. something that people could add themselves to that doesn’t sound as much like “friends of Neville” as this one does… but is more associated with the podcast.
Fun stuff,
Dan
Darien, it looks as though Frappr has hundreds if not thousands of groups. You can search for them including by tags.
Glad to have you, Dan! And re FIR – just what I was thinking, too, so I have created a FIR map:
