Comparing blog publishing offerings

The Online Journalism Review has a good primer and handy comparison chart of some of the major blog publishing platforms, which should be helpful to anyone thinking about starting a blog or thinking about switching platforms.

Platforms reviewed and compared are Blogger, TypePad, BlogWare, WordPress, Movable Type and Expression Engine.

As a TypePad user, I noticed that the comparison chart showing the three TypePad service levels – Basic, Plus and Pro – doesn’t take into account the new features introduced earlier this month, especially those that fight spam such as comment moderation and commenter authentication. So best to also check the updated TypePad features comparison chart on the Six Apart website.

The comments to Susannah Gardner‘s post are useful, too, with suggestions on some other platforms not included in the primer (Drupal and NucleusCMS, for instance).

Overall, the primer is well written and will give you some good information to help you make a choice.
